"I’ve Got your Number" by Sophie Kinsella
Poppy Wyatt is a young woman whose life seemingly couldn’t get any better. She is engaged to a handsome, practically ideal man by the name of Magnus Tavish. However, good things never last (or else there wouldn't be much of a story) and Poppy has the misfortune of being caught in the hotel’s fire drill, during which she loses her engagement ring. The problem is that the engagement ring has been in her future husband’s family for three generations, and on the same day his parents are coming over, she manages to lose the ring.
On top of everything, her phone also ends up being stolen amidst the fire drill panic. From that point on, Poppy’s life takes a turn for the weird as she notices a perfectly good phone lying in a trash can. While she simply intends to use the phone in order to give the hotel a means of contacting her when they find the ring, the owner of that telephone happens to be Sam Roxton, a respectable businessman.
While being a comedy at heart, I’ve Got your Number by Sophie Kinsella does touch on some social issues, mainly how much the concept of cell phones, texting and chatting affects interpersonal relationships and human life in general.
Eventually though, the books starts to lose its comic edge to become more and more intriguing, even becoming somewhat creepy at a certain point. Rest assured that everything remains in good taste and if you are looking for an entertaining read to relax on your time off, you should definitely check this book out.
