“Wormhole” by Richard Phillips – The End of an Era, or the End of a Race?

Wormhole is the final part of the Rho Agenda trilogy written by Richard Phillips, and if you haven’t had the pleasure of reading the first two books yet, then I highly recommend you do so before reading this review, unless of course you like to spoil books for yourself.

You can read about the first book in The Second Ship review, and about the second one in my Immune review.

In any case, this time around Dr. Donald Stephenson has been imprisoned under the pretext that he committed crimes against humanity, which isn’t exactly false. However, scientists in Switzerland discover a new menace, one which risks to swallow the entire Earth whole, and the Rho Project is what can stop it.

Dr. Stephenson, for a full pardon of course, agrees to create a wormhole in order to send whatever anomaly humanity is threatened by into outer space. However, he has a hidden double agenda, one which ties all the way to an alien plan which started with the discovery of the first Rho Ship on Earth.

Thankfully, this book isn't without or favorite protagonists, Heather, Jennifer and Mark. This time around, they’re altered humans, and as you can guess, it is up to the to stop Stephenson’s Wormhole project and conclude this epic trilogy.

Wormhole by Richard Phillips (Book cover)
Not every author is capable of putting together a coherent and enthralling trilogy which captivates you from beginning to end, but Richard Phillips is obviously one of those gifted with that talent.

The final chapter in the conclusion to the trilogy is nothing short of spectacular and action-packed, with the last "battle" being one of the most grandiose and majestic things described on paper.

You can just feel how much is at stake and the weight our protagonists have to carry on their shoulders; every decision they make could decide whether or not humanity makes it.

Also, I have to add that despite what happened in the two previous books, up until the ending I wasn't able to predict whether it would be a good or bad one.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to spoil anything for you, but I feel that I had to mention that as it is one of the factors which makes certain books truly great and worth reading, just like this one.
