“The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren – How to Live your Purpose

First off, I’m going to say that even though I do believe that there is some kind of higher power out there, I’m not a religious person. Though I was baptized as an Orthodox Christian, I decided to stop following the teachings of religious groups (mostly due to the club mentality of it all), attempting to find out the truth for myself.

Regardless of what I have found and come to believe, I cannot help but pay attention to The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, the second most published book on Earth, after the Bible of course. It focuses on giving an answer to a question most of us have probably pondered time after time without results: what is our purpose in life, and how do we live it?

The book is separated into a large number of chapters, each one of them following a certain theme, all of them converging in the end to create the big picture, the path to “how to live your purpose”. In the recent release of the book, Rick Warren has included numerous updates to it in the form of 42 audio messages, each one of them going in greater depth about the topic discussed in a certain chapter. In each one of them Warren explains his reasoning in relation to the Bible, to God, to the Church as an organization, and to us humans, how we fit into the whole picture.

If you are someone looking to learn about Christianity, or are already admitted into the Church and want to learn about how you could potentially find your purpose in life in terms of religion, then I definitely recommend you give The Purpose a Driven Life at least a chance.

As a non-religious person, I have to admit that even though some parts of the book seemed cheesy and irrelevant, there are some points touched upon that go beyond religion, beyond the club mentality of major religious organizations, points that are made in hopes of establishing universal truths that work for everyone, regardless of who or where they are. For these ideas, this book is worth a read, even by those who aren’t religious at all.
